Background

Families Living with Diabetes was established in 1994 by the Paediatric Diabetes Nurse at South Cleveland Hospital (now "The James Cook University Hospital") and some parents of children with diabetes. It is a support group for families with children with diabetes and covers an area stretching from Billingham in the North to Guisborough in the South, Yarm in the West to Redcar in the East. The group has been part of Diabetes UK since 2000 and works to the policies and guidelines contained in the Voluntary Groups handbook.

Aims

It is the groups aim to bring together families who have children with diabetes, in an informal and friendly environment. Activities are organised throughout the year, enabling children to mix and interact in an environment which hopefully helps to stimulate a greater understanding of diabetes, its symptoms and Control.
